Postini Login Information & Common Questions
 

THE FIRST TIME YOU LOGIN TO POSTINI

The first time you login to Postini you will see the "Change Password" screen.  It looks like the one shown below.  Here Postini asks you to change your temporary password (It's the password that came to you in your initial Postini Welcome email, example welcome email) to one that you will use from now on.  Below is an example of what you will see when you are asked to change your password. Remember that the old password is the one that Postini sent in your welcome letter. If you don't have your letter or don't remember your password, click the "forgot password" link to receive a temporary password. Postini hides the characters that you type so that anyone watching will not know your password.

THE POSTINI MESSAGE CENTER

Postini is an email protection service that provides each user with a Message Center where your spam and viruses are filtered and quarantined. Your legitimate email messages are delivered to your email inbox, just as they always have, but junk and virus-infected email is routed to your Message Center.

Getting the most out of your Message Center

It is strongly recommended that you check your Message Center daily at first so your filters "learn" to be more effective and accurate. Upon regular review, remove the unwanted messages and deliver the ones you want. You can also safely read the contents of a virus-infected email in your Message Center without the risk of harming your own personal system. Adjust the filters to meet your unique needs.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Q: If I don't delete quarantined messages how long are they held?
A:  They are held for 14 days and then they are deleted.

Q: Am I missing any emails?
A: No, all messages are held so you can view them for 14 days.

Q: I'm not getting as many emails, how come?
A: Because Postini is better at filtering out unwanted emails than our previous spam/virus program.

Q: How long will it take for Postini to learn which emails are good emails?
A: It usually takes a couple weeks for Postini to learn your favorite incoming emails.  

Q: If I don't trust Postini to learn quickly enough, how do I tell Postini that I always want to receive email from certain people or places? 
A:  You need to put approved senders in the "Approved Senders" list. Follow these steps to put email addresses on the approved senders list:

  • After logging in click on approved senders link at the top right of the screen. 
  • In the "approved senders" box enter email addresses of all the senders that you approve. 
  • Once they are entered just click on the "Update Approved Senders" button at the bottom. 
  • After that Postini will know that all email from those senders should be delivered.
Q:  How do I tell Postini that I never want to receive email from certain people or places?
A:  You need to put disapproved senders in the "Blocked Senders" list. 

Follow these steps to put email addresses in the Blocked Senders list:

  • After logging in click on "Approved Senders" link at the top right of the screen. 
  • Click on the "Blocked Senders" link. 
  • Enter the all the email addresses in the "blocked senders" box that you want blocked. 
  • Once they are entered click on the "Update Blocked Senders" button at the bottom. 
  • After that Postini will know that all email from those senders should not be delivered.

Q:  How do I get filtered email delivered to my inbox?
A :  Put a check in the box to the right of all emails that you want delivered.  Once the emails you want delivered are checked click on the "Deliver Selected" button at the top-right of the list.

Q:  How do I delete filtered email?
A :  Put a check in the box to the right of all emails that you want deleted.  Once the emails you want deleted are checked click on the "Delete Selected" button at the top-left of the list.

Q:  I'm clicking on the link in the notification email that says that I have potential junk mail/viruses but it's not bringing up a page.  Is there something else I can do?
A :  Yes, load Postini from your browser by going to http://login.postini.com.  You can login there by entering your email address and password.
